The information society is marked by the challenges and opportunities of the twenty-first century changing fundamental aspects of our lives. These changes include the dissemination of knowledge, economic practices, entrepreneurship, media, health, education, among others. Society information according to (Johnston and Webber, 2003) creates, distributes and manipulates information in making economic and cultural activity. The information society and new technologies of information and communication have become a necessity. The library, knowledge and technological development provide opportunities to transcend consciousness. It is a dynamic center for learning. It has a varied set of services and means to increase knowledge, stimulate learning and develop skills of student-centered research.

Libraries and librarians face a great challenge in the 21 st Century. In educational institutions are the future citizens of tomorrow, librarians and educators have in their hands the means to make them lifelong learners. So the role of the library and librarians must change. Lupton in 2002 states that libraries in the 21 st Century and information professionals will become teacher librarians, who are able to teach students the skills to thrive in their personal lives, at work and to find answers to new problems are emerging in today's society.

These three categories include skills necessary for success in student life and work. These categories are

Skills in information management, media and information technologies and communication

media literacy information and

communication skills
Learning and Skills

Critical thinking and systems thinking

identification, formulation and solution of problems
Creativity and intellectual curiosity
visual literacy

interpersonal and collaborative skills

Autonomy or self-direction capacity
accountability and adaptation
addition, educational institutions must go beyond a focus on competencies in core subjects to promoting understanding of academic content at much higher high as cross-cutting themes in the core subjects:

Global Consciousness

Financial, economic, commercial and business literacy
Civic Literacy Literacy
Health Literacy
These skills are summarized in academic, vocational, and psychosocial practices. Involve information, knowledge, attitudes, values, skills, abilities, emotions, feelings and motivation. Are associated with labor market demands, demands the information society, training of individuals critical to the performance of professional standards.

To achieve the above is necessary to consider: Tools for the job of learning where we believe the study skills, the development of these skills, resources and information services to educational outcomes, taking into account teaching the basics right for the inclusion of these skills, commitment to society, learning throughout life, student-centered learning, the potential of information technology to improve access to education and the quality of learning, the tools for "learning to learn" that take into account the skills for lifelong learning, provide students with mechanisms for handling information that support the solution of problems in her occupation and social activities, among others.

Education in the XXI Century is able to able to instil in students a set of achievements and knowledge such as skills, knowledge and competencies that are congruent to the demands of globalization and changing information society. References
