The first thing to do is to start measuring student reading speed. For which you must try reading a text for 5 minutes and calculate the number of words read, make an estimate: the number of words in a standard line and the number of lines read. Multiplying these two figures obtained an approximation of the number of words read. This figure is divided by 5 to get a measure of reading speed (number of words per minute). Mainly
reader should consider the following points to make a faster reading:
- Avoid vocals (mental, oral): I nte ntar not lips move, keep your mouth relaxed, as qu and pronounce when reading reduced by 50% the speed of reading.
- Avoid reread. You should not look back, but we think that something has escaped.
- Reduce eye fixations: Although we do not realize when we read we are setting (stopping) the eyes in every word, and within each letter. To avoid this you must make a smooth continuous motion with the eyes and not a succession of short stops.
- Focus on the words that bring meaning: have to look at the nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs, discarding articles, prepositions and conjunctions
- Al final reading will be searched in the dictionary words are not understood: Instead of going interrupting reading every occurrence of a word is not understood, it is better to write them down on paper and final reading look them up in a dictionary.
